My uncle used to work for a construction company and thinks that I should have our builder look at the ducting work for it as he says they may not have sealed the joints of it properly causing air to get partially vented into our upstairs area. They are both located directly above the hood fan. Is this something that we'll have to take care of, or can they fix it?Īfter cooking with our hood fan on (a microwave hood fan), I notice that the bathroom and closet in our bedroom upstairs smell. It makes it difficult for people to walk up to our front door without having their shoes get soaked. But just in the last month, now that snow has started melting, all the water is collecting in a corner and created a puddle that is probably 2 feet long x 3 feet wide and is 4-5 inches deep with water. Once again, it wasn't an issue when we moved in and wasn't a problem when it rained. We have a low spot on our front walkway that is collecting water. I know they're going to have to rip up the top floor carpet and re-do it, but can I ask them to re-do other carpeted areas even if they are not making crackling noises? It is going away now that the weather is warming up again, but I know that this isn't right and I want it fixed. I emailed the builder and was told that it was just because of the weather and that it would go away. When the weather got colder, the entire carpeted area of our top floor started doing this.

When we first moved in, this wasn't a problem other than in a single corner of our bedroom. Our upstairs carpet crackles when you walk on it.

Anyways, there are a few things that I am wanting fixed, but am not sure if the builder will look into fixing them or will be particularly happy about fixing them. We bought a townhouse that was a brand new build, so we had our initial walk through and will be having our one year walk through in May that should cover workmanship deficits and such. My boyfriend and I purchased our first home almost a year ago.
